Oberst Hermann Buchner, Luftwaffe, served in many groups of the Luftwaffe during World War II and was decorated with the Knights Cross.

Buchner volunteered for air training with the Austrian Flying Corps. When the war came, he was in Fighter School Werneuchen, First Staffel. Later he was with the Strike Training Group in Lippstadt then in February 1942 he was with the 8./Sch.G 1 (the 8th School Group I). Later, he was with Strike Group 2 "IMMELMAN" and saw service over the Crimea, Stalingrad and Romania. He saw much combat service throughout the entire war in many combat groups.
