1st. Lt. "Hap" Halloran was navigator on the B-29
SUPERFORTRESS bomber named "the Rover Boys Express"
after a young boy's book of the 1940's. While on a bombing raid over
Japan, they were intercepted by Japanese fighters and shot down, the survivors
of the crew becoming prisoners of war. In the PoW camp, "Hap"
met and became good friends with U.S. Marine Corps legend, "Pappy"
Boyington.
This photo is from a painting depicting the last moments of "the Rover
Boys Express" before it was shot down.
