Baron Georg von Zirk was living on his parents farm in Poland when World War II
began and was almost shot to death by a German officer with the invasion force,
until the officer realized that Georg was a German living there in Poland.
He joined the Luftwaffe and became part of an aircrew on a Heinkel He-111
as a navigator/bombardier. His career spanned the entire time of World War
II, and he was in combat throughout the war.
