Photographic images of History from the private cameras of young German soldiers.  These were in the years just before a time of struggle, of honor and the loss of an entire generation of young men, the end of a nation, the destruction of an entire continent and a way of life.

This was a time before the great struggle – before the fighting and the combat and in this volume, we see the photographic record of these young soldiers as they trained for the struggle that should never have occurred.  These soldiers, many cavalrymen, shot photos of their training in this book when in Russia pre-war in the mid-1930’s.  We see them train with their comrades in arms as well as relaxing times, in cafes, with girlfriends – the way all young soldiers live in a foreign land.
