It was a heroic time on both sides and now, with the reminiscences of Kretschmer, Topp, Dönitz, Hardegen and so many others who fought this war, combined with some who were on the Allied side, we are beginning to get the perspective we need, as people interested in accurate history, to understand truly what went on and how it felt to the dedicated men who bore the burden and gave their all.
