SHARKHUNTERS Salutes Veterans
ERNST GÖTHLING (1225-1989)
Kriegsmarine, U-Bootwaffe
![]() | During the war, ERNST rode a very unpleasant boat – he rode U-26. This was one of only two Type I-A boats built. The crews disliked these two boats because of their poor handling characteristics – they would dive or surface almost with a will of their own. They were out of the war quickly, being sunk on 3 July 1940. ERNST spent most of the war as “Guest of the King” but after the war, when Germany was again allowed a Navy, he joined the Bundsmarine as an officer. ERNST was a strong, supportive Member of Sharkhunters and a good friend; and he did a lot for Sharkhunters in Germany. |
