URSULA DÖNITZ (HESSLER) (1339-1990)
![]() | URSULA DÖNITZ was the only daughter of Großadmiral Karl Dönitz and she married Knights Cross holder Günther Hessler. It was a terrible life for her after about mid-war. Both her brothers were killed in action then after the war ended, she thought that her father would be executed. Rather, he was put in prison for ten years (and twenty days). Several of the letters we received from her appeared to have been tear-stained and towards the end of her life, she wrote that she was in constant sadness. It is believed that Operation URSULA was named after her. That was the operation that sent German U-Boats into Spanish water and sinking ships – in 1936! They were on the side of the Franco government during the Spanish Civil War. |
