WALTER JANEK (227-1986)

Kriegsmarine, U-Bootwaffe

u-67au-67b

WALTER was one of only three survivors of U-67, pictured above. The photo right clearly shows the Turmabzeichen (tower emblem).  This boat was sunk in the Saragossa Sea by a torpedo bomber of Squadron VC.13 flying off USS CARD.

After the war, WALTER became an American citizen and moved to Texas. Shortly thereafter, he found that in this huge state in this massive country, MORRIS GRINSTEAD (928-1989), the navigator on the plane that sank U-67, lived not too far away! The two men, former enemies, became fast friends, once again proving our motto “Yesterday’s Enemies are Today’s Friends!
